Spotlight on Dance Teams
For the first time ever, The Ft. Wayne Dance For All will have a separate ballroom
dedicated to Dance Teams. Teams of all sizes, small to large, will compete or demonstrate their dance routines to share their love of dance with the Dance For All community.
Dance Teams will participate in the category of their choice based on their size, type and style of dance. More than one category can be entered with a different routine. Routines are 3-5 minutes long, done to country or non country music.
See the categories below for more details. Teams who prefer not to be scored can do a demo of their routine instead.
Refer to the Rules and Q & A pages on this website for more details. All members on the competing dance team must have a weekend pass to the Ft. Wayne Dance For All. Visit www.ftwaynedanceforall.com for hotel and registration information.

A dance team is a group of dancers who dance the same dances to their favorite music. Dance teams can dance a line dance, partner dance, solo dance (movements done as an individual dancer in sync with the whole group and done to emphasize parts of the music or to change formations) Dance Teams can include one or more line or partner dances in their routines, change formations, utilize vocals, hand motions, poses and freestyle elements in their routines. In the Show-Stopper competition category, dancers can use props and stage sets and include any forms or combination of styles of dancing and music in their routines.

To start a dance team, get your friends together, select your favorite dances and music, choreograph a routine and start practicing. It is recommended that you practice once a week for two hours each time. Everyone should show up for every practice to achieve team unity and learn the routine together.

Depending on the complexity of your routine and the level of dancers on your team, it could take 6 weeks to 3 months to learn one 3-5 minute routine with 2 hours of practice a week. Combine multiple routines into a dance show lasting 15-30 minutes or longer.

Once the routine is mastered, the team can perform at public functions, like fair and festivals, concerts, private parties, corporate events, shopping centers, clubs, bars, dance studios, even hospitals, nursing homes, flash mobs and anywhere an audience exists.

Get your team together and come to the Dance Team Showdown and join other teams to get ideas, have fun, support each other and share the love of team dancing.
